Injector delivery valve

Anyone know where I can buy the delivery valve seals for the M603 (87 300TDT) ? I also need the special socket to remove these. I think I read somewhere it was a 32 spline socket.

The tool rental program has the special socket.

Not sure which internet parts sales sites would ship to Canada. I believe Fastlane does not. The seals are tiny parts which could be mailed in an envelope. Maybe someone stateside could obtain them and send them to you.

Be careful when removing the copper washer. Do not remove the delivery valve assembly, especially do not use a magnet to remove the delivery valve assembly. If the delivery valve assembly is removed, the barrel that it sits upon may lift and rotate slightly such that it is no longer properly aligned with its tiny locating pin. Then, when everything is reassembled, the barrel will be pressed down and jam against the locating pin which will itself be pushed out of position. The net result will be no fueling from that cylinder. If this happens, the pump may be able to be repaired easily, or it may require complete disassembly and recalibration ($$$). This has happened to a number of forum members recently, myself included. I was lucky and was able to fix my pump, although I had to remove it from the car to do it.

I'm not trying to scare you here. The o-ring job is simple and easy, as long as you don't get that barrel out of position. I was surprised how easy it was to get the barrel out of position, and how difficult it was to tell that it had happened, but I had not been forewarned about this when I did the job. If I had known what to look for, it would not have happened. Now you know, so go forth and have a successful DV oring replacement job!

Ya it seems that things can go wrong, but that is true of most things I guess. The 606 looks different than my 603 but only in the intake manifold. Someone said I could get the socket at the tool rental place but not sure what he was referring to. Can MB get this tool? Anyone bought one from them?

Of course things can go wrong with anything you do. Just thought I'd give you a heads-up, because it is not that uncommon a problem and doesn't get discussed too much. Good luck!

The Diesel Giant site has a how to do pictoral Please note that other then the Delivery Valve Holder (he calls a Stub Pipe), the Delivery Valve Spring and the Copper Washer he advises "Do NOT remove the assembly that the washer is sitting on!"
Also when you get to the site and you first look at the page it appears there is no pics; you need to schroll down the page to see the pics.

http://www.dieselgiant.com/mercedes_injection_pump_o_ring_r.htm

Besides the above site I would read our own DIY section too.

There is a list of people who will rent there tools on this Forum. What the other Member was suggesting was that you look at the list and find out if anyone will rent you the socket that lives near you.

I played "operation" and used tweezers to remove the copper washers. Worked well, in my opinion.

If the tool is not available in the rental program for some reason, I'll consider renting mine out to you.

I just emailed my local MB dealership and they said, and I quote, "We cannot sell tools they are for our use only" Can anyone believe that? If that was the case they could make a special wheel nut and not sell the wrench so when you have a flat you would have to tow it there.

I think they mean that they can't sell the tools they have on hand for their mechanics' use. The should be able to order it for you, but you can find the tool from other sources online. I don't have the link handy, but search the forums here... you'll find the source. You could also put the part number into google. You can also look on eBay.

Oh, yeah... it's samstagsales.com or something like that.

I'd also add that there is no reason to play with the valve element or the that it collar it fits into. Messing with those is what usually causes folks greif when doing DV seals causing the pump to have to be recalibrated on occassion.

Notfarnow is in Canada and may have the socket for rent.....

Actually I am right across the bay! No socket here, but I was going to weld one up using a retainer tab. If Someoen has a couple spares, I'll do up a "ghetto" version for him, and one for me.

Oh and I just checked in my garage, and I have a spare set of viton o-rings for an om606. If they are the same as the om603, you can have them. I got two sets of o-ring from jdavis but didn't use the DV seals.
