Amsoil diesel concentrate performance additive

I am quite skeptical of it was wondering does it really work or is it one those many gimmics on the market that dont work?

I will say this Amsoil does a really good job of marketing their product.

Oh sure it does something, it wont enable you to lay down 300HP, but it will add lubricity to ULSD, Sulfur acts as a protectant and lubricant. Benz diesels were designed to run on US 500 PPM sulfur diesel. Whereas current diesel is 15 PPM sulfur. I use a diesel lubricity additive at everyfill up, I figure the $17.00 for a gallon of the stuff that treats 500 gallons is cheap insurance for an IP failure, especially on my benz with 310K miles and gaining everyday. I use CRC diesel additive. Power Service Diesel Slik works good also. I use it in my dodge and actually see a reduction in black smoke under acceleration (chip in stock mode though)

Anyways hope this helps, I would use it, but I'm sure many will beg to differ as did Mr. Newcomb.

Incorrect. Sulfur is a natural contaminant of diesel, it does nothing beneficial.

A complete waste of money, as are ALL recreational fuel additives.

I use diesel only also, i dont have the time to dick around with alt fuels. But I think I gotta differ with you on the sulfur thing. Heck Cummins even recommends some diesel additives. But I understand your view on things.

Amsoil makes lots of empty claims, and cites no improvement over diesel fuel without additives, stating that it meets or exceeds diesel fuel requirements when added to diesel fuel. Pretty lame.

It does show one test that indicates it will reduce the corrosiveness of "extremely severe diesel fuel" if you happen to have any of that.

Lots of solvents, seems that there is't much difference (chemically) between Lubro-Moly Diesel Purge, the many other fuel treatments, Trans-X and the many transmission treatments, and paint thinner.

Pick your poison (literally, they're all known carcenogens).

I really dont use those products since I understand how a car works and a lot of the advertising behind these products dont make any sense like fuel additives. I was looking a variety of these products while waiting for napa to make paint for the 77 300D. Sea foam is a product to avoid. The best way to remove carbon from an engine is to use atf not some chemicals that will mess bearings and stay in the motor. I still have to have to figure out to do it on the benz diesels since theres no source of manifold vacuum

the prevous owner of the 77 put the power service stuff in the tank. theres a lot of more these gimmcs for gas cars out there.

Well, the answer to your question is.......it depends. It depends if your looking for opinions. I'm sure there is some benefit but the depend factor is in whether you feel you are getting your money's worth. Only research on a particular product will tell you that, not asking for opinions. This forum is filled with opinions on what type/brand of oil to use, K&N vs. Conventional air filters, refrigerant types and yes....additives and probably others I don't recall. Even a lot of the "research" on these is conflicting and in many/most cases, questionable.

I believe that as long as additives aren't harmful, and you want to spend the money for some benefit, go ahead with it. But doubt you will find concrete answers as to whether it is "worth it".

yes, in fact I did a test with atf in our little old diesel generator, I ran it off ATF, the only thing you have to be carful of is filtering the fluid down to 2 microns because used fluid has particles that can plug the injectors. The old case diesel plugged away on it and I never had an issue. It currently runs on diesel. I only ran it off atf once just to see what would happen. Noticeable less power that diesel, but much less smoke and much less soot/smell (which I love)
