Non turbo 606 owners, fuel system question
It's a long story, but I have the opportunity to test, under semi-controlled circumstances and paid for by others, a type of catalytic fuel treatment device. Yes, it's borderline snake oil type technology, and that is one of the reasons why we'd like to test it. It's a device which fits in the fuel line, preferably between the fuel filter(s) and the IP. It is supposed to improve fuel consumption and reduce emissions.
Being familiar with the mass of preformed plastic lines to and from the fuel pump, IP, and filters, that location is just not going to work. There is no reasonable way, IMHO, to break one of those lines and splice a gizmo in the middle. Said gizmo, by the way, is about 7" long, barb fitting to barb fitting, and about 1.5" diameter. It is a stainless cylinder and it weighs about 1 lb - 10 oz. The barbs are about 3/8" diameter. So my question is, has anyone traced the fuel line from the fuel tank up to the engine compartment, is it a steel line or a rubber line or ? The device should supposedly be mounted vertically and because of the weight some bracket will need to be fabricated. Clearly it's made with the idea of cutting a rubber fuel line and just putting it in with 2 hose clamps, like a simple plastic filter. I'd prefer not to cut a steel line, that's for sure, but somehow I doubt they used rubber up from the tank. If I can get it installed I will have the car emissions tested before and and after 100 hours of operation. I have tracked my fuel consumption for 4 years, so I have a good baseline there already. I'd love to put one of these hokey things to a real test! Rgds, Chris W. '95 E300D, 285K |

Supply and return lines are up high on the left firewall. Combo of metal and rubber back to the tank.
