Question What is this????

Hey all, finally figured out what was making a loud rattling noise in my rear suspension on my 220D. I thought it was my muffler, as it needs one more rubber hanger, but I found the real culprit. I have no idea what this "bar" is and what it's supposed to do. It's not connected to anything but i'm pretty sure it should be. It moves freely up and down which causes the rattling when I drive and turn.

Can anyone tell me what this is, and what's for? What's it supposed to be connected to? and the big question: Is it expensive to fix? lol

Thanks everyone!

^^On a 123 or 126, very easy to swap out/replace. The most time consuming aspect is removing the wheel.

Question Ball joint?

Just took off both rear wheels, and both sides of the sway bar need links. Although there is like a ball joint on both of them that doesn't look like it would fit the part on Fast lane. Even though it's for the correct year/model. This just me? or will it fit no problem? Just can't wait to get it so it's not rattling.
