Front Timing Cover Sealant

I just put my engine back together and noticed today that my timing cover sealant that squeezed out is still basically liquid, the same as when I applied it.

Is that right?

Seems like it should harden up a bit to me but I thought perhaps it would need to heat up first.

Anyhow, I thought I would check before dropping the engine back in.

Any ideas?

Anyone want to trade an old Volvo for an '87 300sdl?

What type of sealant did you use?

Was it sealant that came with the Gasket Kit or something you bought?

Over the years I have experienced 2 tubes of Silicone Sealant that did not set up as it was supposed to. The Last one I bought about 6 months ago at 99cent store. I no longer buy that brand. Even heat did not cause it to cure.

Other stuff like the brown colored Permatex Non-hardneing liquid gasket sealer takes a long time; several months on a hot Engine till it firms up some but even then is still not hard.

At the Naval Shipyard they used Silicone Sealant that did not cure until the Engine got hot. I did not even know there was such a thing; due to distrust I avoided using it.

I got it from a Volvo shop.

It's pink, in a white tube, just has the part number on it.

The shop specialized in Volvo's and said that it is what they use as their timing cover sealant.

I do not know what to say as I have never used the above stuff.

I only know the products that I have used like Gasgacinch (like a rubber cement), the old school Brown hardening or non-hardening in a tube Permatex, either regular or Ultra Silicon Sealant and Copper Coat liquid or spray (for select things).
I have used the brown Liquid Permatex because that is what they had where I worked but I do not prefer it.

I would go back and ask them or log onto a Volvo Forum and ask someone if it works.
