Yeah, it's both gaskets on the differential, I'm not sure about the oil filter housing, he just said it was put back on wrong. Wasn't leaking oil though, so I belived him lol

Yeah! The center support on the drive shaft, I knew I had it wrong lol They were moving it up and down with their hands which isn't supposed to be happening as i'm told

Have him give you a written estimate of the work to be performed prior to having any work done.

That price seems to low for a guy who knows what he's doing...

Be glad you didn't just keep driving it--and then have those hoses blow coming back down the palms to pines hwy from that scenic overlook above palm desert.

$500 is about right, that was less than $100 in parts.

I assumed that after these were all taken care of I could finally get her some new tires ect.... Well, I assumed wrong.

When it came to ask how much this was going to be, he told me 500$. Which I can deal with for all this work.

Jordan,
Count your blessings. You got off absolutely dirt cheap. I figured you might have some other expenses which is why I sold you that injection pump for 25% of what everyone else would. I told a friend of mine what I sold it to you for and he flipped out. But I am not here to screw people and ask for reasonable consideration in return.

We are a forum of amateurs and hobbyists and although people believe in the free market, folks here would object if had to start buying air to breathe and the price kept going up. They'd start growing plants to breathe cheaper.

That's why we don't screw each other on parts or assistance ( I know guys helping others by going over to their houses) and I spent an hour on the phone earlier this week with someone for that reason.

I hope it stays that way.

Having lived in both Palm Springs and Palm Desert your are very fortunate because of the host of high end independent repair shops in the desert! Having owned a '88 Jaguar at the time it was a major relive to have a choice of compendent independent shops. Now that I'm living in Fresno, the independent shops here are worst than the dealer, but are cheaper!

Unhappy

I appreciate this guy for doing the work, and being pretty quick with it, he's awesome!!.. Although, it wasn't finished today, I'm told it will be done Monday because they were having such trouble with the drive shaft, he said he had one of his other assistants get so frustrated with it that he had to take a break......

a little dissapointed it wasn't finished today but w/e I can deal lol Monday it is! I'm curious to see how it's going to be, if it's really going to be a different car!

Sounds like you have a very good indy taking care of things for you. The things listed will make a big difference in it. Get that new set of tires on it and you're gonna be impressed. After all these years a new set of Bilstiens will probably be in order down the road, but your indy seems to have found all the primary routine age related issues to keep you safe. Now you can go enjoy that 115, they are special cars

If anyone has a list of things to look at specifically on 220D cars, pls tell me, I just bought one that was otherwise to be consigned to the purgatory of the pick a part, because it had a bad slave cylinder. As far as I know, that's all that's wrong with it!!

I couldn't let it go to the glue factory. It will instead be towed to my place and lovingly repaired, and maintained. Then maybe I miught keep or sell, dunno.

BTW I will soon have a 240D on the block for sale. Son will not be getting it for school, so now it is extra.

Unhappy sigh

Well my dad got a call from the mechanic today.... Yeah to good to be true. We're now at $1,000.... From what my dad told me, they needed to replace the brake master cylinder and stuff. Something with the brakes. This is waaaay beyond my paying ability, so i'm now going to have to have my dad help me out which I was trying to avoid at all costs.

I still see this as being "ahead of the game" seeing on how the car cost us 500$ initially. Which was done in details for the guy who sold it to us. Then we spent 100$ on a part from the past mechanic and now 1,000 on this. Total coming to: 1,600$ for a fine running, cosmetically great looking Mercedes- Benz! In near mint condition. Only problem is the 1,000$ it took to get her up to great driving. Since I'm going to have to scrap up everything that I have to pay for this, I'll probably have to pick her up either tomorrow or Wednesday....

At least I don't have to buy him that pizza now lol
