Replacement hose from banjo bolt to ALDA

The hose from the banjo bolt to the ALDA on my 1983 300TD broke off. I cut back a little and tried to work it back onto the barb, but it is brittle and split.

Any ideas where I can get replacement hose? It is the clear rigid stuff. Local NAPA does not have anything like that.

I replaced mine with a thicker diameter vacuum line made of thick black rubber. Works great. I can't remember what the diameter is.

I take it you bypassed your overboost protection?

Try Tyler's suggestion. (I was about to say the same thing) you need a hose that can stand up to the air temperature in the line so do not use fish tank hose. (ask me how I know that...)

I did find some rigid white plastic stuff at Home Depot that should also work. I use it to plumb in my boost gauge. It is the hose used to install ice makers for refrigerators.

No, I did not bypass it. Is there any negative to doing this? This is the small cylinder on the firewall with the button on top?

I just bought the car recently and have not started it yet. Bad glow plugs. I removed the Autolites, but the new Bosch will not go in. i ordered a reamer and will hopefully turn it over then.

Meanwhile, I am replacing the interior. That's confidence that I'll get it running! The two cans of ether found under the front seats don't encourage that confidence.

There is a danger. It is there to prevent the turbo from spooling too much and shooting too much air/pressure into the engine.

Thanks for the tips. I'll get the black vacuum hose from NAPA. I'll leave the overboost protection in for now. I might add a turbo boost gauge if I can find a place to mount it. I love the gauge I added to my Powerstroke F250.

I really need to hook that thing back up with Ol' Turbo, but I have to clean the banjo bolt first, and find one that is pre-1985 to hook up. My 1985 had another vacuum line leading out of the overboost to all this other useless crap. Trigger an Defiant still have theirs'.

I broke mine the other day too but at the turbo end. I put it back as folllows:

- removed remaining tubing material off the barb using utility knife.
- trimmed end of tubing to make a clean-cut end.
- used hair dryer (heat gun may even be better) and trained it to end of tubing and barb and heated it as much as I can.
- slowly pushed tubing in to barb while heat on it (you have to be patient as the tubing is tough).
- got it to 2 barbs in and it is holding good.

I know that you can get this part from the dealer already attached to a barbed fitting. Check with them. Have them show you the blowup so you can identify which section you need. I got the section from the turbo to the switchover valve from the dealer last year and if I recall it was around $12.00. I still have not used it as I was able to repair the tubing (on my other 300D).

I did not remove the ALDA and overboost from my OM617 powered 300SD, but I took it all off of the OM603 powered 300SDL and it makes a huge difference...
