I guess if it was mine I would probably reluctantly bring it to a dealer for diagnosis - it is worth an hour or two of labor to pinpoint it...this is one of those issues you might spend a ton of time on and still not be able to fix it without their proprietary scanning equipment. I think they can scan the controls and pinpoint it if it does it every time. Then at least you will know where you stand.

Steering angle is reset by turning wheel lock to lock and holding on the stops for a couple of seconds.

I can't be of much help, but I know if you hold the remote right by the front doors and press and hold the unlock/lock, what ever the case, the windows will all roll up/down and lock/unlock the car. Maybe your remote battery is weak.

My 98 W210 was doing some odd things last summer like windows not going down sun roof not working correctly and locks not working, and then it stopped having issues... Of course I haven't dared to use the sunroof all winter for fear it would stop in the open position... Come summer we will see if the gremlins return to haunt me... I will then try disconnecting the battery and resetting everything...

Convenience Module
I've just encountered this problem within the last couple of days & it sounds like your problem is within the same area. The "convenience module" is located under the backseat, driver's side. I just discovered that if I leave my car for a day or two without starting it up, the battery drains completely dead. I put a multimeter on the battery and started disconnecting items until I found that one of the plug-ins on the convenience module (one that controls the windows, door locks, trunk light, the radio, plus more) was the culprit. Once I unplugged it, I no longer had the draw on the battery. I'm currently looking for another module, however, to alleviate the overnight drain on my battery, I pulled fuse #9 (under hood, driver's side) at the end of the day and then put it back in the morning before driving. This broke that circuit keeping my battery from being drained dead. It's a temporary fix until I either find, fix, or replace the module. I'm about to go to a couple of junkyards... yeech!.... to try to find this module. Hope this gives you some sort of temporary help at any rate...

Now that the weather is finally heating up here in the Northeast my Electrical Gremlins have returned...
Drivers window will not go down and later the same day the front Passenger window would not go down... Sun roof still works but if last years pattern repeats the sun roof will stop working and then the locks will start working only intermittently... Trunk lock will be a problem at some point if previously locked as it will not allow entry... Is it totally electronic, even with mechanical key use???

You haven't spilt anything on the centre console have you? You might want to pull the wood around the gear lever up, and disconnect the window switches - at least eliminate those.
For good measure I'd also put black tape over the IR sensors on the door handles (if you have them), although I think it unlikely that they have anything to do with your problem. Its a process of elimination. |

Hey POD...
Thanks for the post... No spills, Don't like the Cup holders, I reuse plastic water bottles and leave them on the passenger seat... The IR sensors will eventually not work and I will have to use the metal key insert to open the drivers door which set off the alarm last summer... Or as has also happened I will be unable to lock the car and will have to manually lock each door... The car is parked in a garage at home and I try to park in the shade at work which seems to have little or no effect on these occurrences... I also make sure to shut the sun roof and all windows before I turn the car off in case the windows or roof refuse to work when I restart, it happened once... Different windows will be effected at different times, I have yet to observe a pattern other than the drivers window has been the first to not work both summers... I expect this will get worse as the Summer temps rise and then then get better again as the season advances into Fall however it is a royal PITA and a bit stressful so I'd like to fix it... What common factor do the locks, windows, sunroof and trunk have that might affected by temperature changes, primarily temp increases??...

Another Symptom...
The tilt down feature for the passenger rear view mirror is now not working, it did this last summer too...

As of yesterday my front windows are not working.. Back up tilt down feature is not working on passenger Mirror.. Neither side mirror will adjust.. Neither front seat will adjust.. Sunroof will not open.. Remote activation of the locks will not work in Radio or Infrared modes.. It was cool enough that I didn't try the back windows this morning and I rarely use the AC since I don't have it at home... I will try the back windows to night but they worked a couple of days ago... I've been monitoring my battery voltage via a Scangauge II in case that was an issue and it maintains 12 volts or more after the Glow Plug cycle off.. I went through all of this last summer and everything began to slowly return to full operation after a week or so... It is still a Royal PITA...

Have you checked the connections at the convenience module which one of the posts on this thread discusses (post #20)? I'd first make sure all of the contacts were clean and tight. Spray some de-oxit on them and plug them back in and see what happens. You could also try opening up the module and see if anything looks obviously bad (bulging capacitors, broken solder joints or traces on the board).
