Vacuum pump on 93 300d

Hi all first post. Have a 1993 300d /186,000 miles and am wondering if I should replace the vacuum pump? Dont know if it is original but it works fine with no noise. Is this rebuildable or should I replace it? Could someone suggest where to get parts/pump,Thank you.

If you are asking about replacing it as preventive maintenance because of its age I have read stories of these pumps breaking and causing major engine damage when the bearings and other debris from a busted pump find their way to the timing chain etc. I am not sure which model benz this has happened to. Maybe someone out there can chime in on this. Jim

The conventional wisdom here is to replace them at about that mileage. AFAIK they are not rebuildable. I replaced mine at 200,000. If you do a search there are threads about vacuum pump failures.

I searched the threads and it seems if it has the sealed bearing/new style there is no danger of bearing coming apart. Is this true? Pump works and sounds perfect so I would rather not replace unless it can break like early style. Again it is a 1993 300d with 186000 miles.Thank you.

Thanks Compress Ignite and everybody else. I did see that thread and did not catch it right away that the pump had a sealed bearing but broke elsewhere. Guess that answers my question.Pump has been ordered this morning. Thanks again.
