Attaching New Timing Chain to Old Timing Chain

What is an alternative way to attach the new timing chain to the old timing chain when installing a new chain? The clip that came with my new iwis chain is the permanent version w/o the c-clip. I dunno; Zip-tie? nut/bolt? bent nail?

Thx,
bigmaq

I have used a snap on clip from an Alfa. There is a special clip for this purpose available from MB and probably alternate sources.
Pretty sure someone on the forum has a very innovative method - like using a clip from the old chain where you cut the head off of a link.
I would not risk dropping the chain or getting the chain out of time by not using a secure link.

I cannot remember if it was a 603 or a 606 but one member tried to wire the new and old chains together; that worked until it got stuck. I never went back to check to see how they got it unstuck.

Yes, not enough side clearance to thread the chain through with side extensions. Some form of a link with no or minimal more side clearance is mandatory.

I bought an extra link, attached it, and ground it off when it came through the top.
Figured for a little extra $$ & work it was worth avoiding a lot of grief

With it being a double roller chain... with several gears and rails in contact... and tension being held on it throughout the process.. the chance that it would be able to come off during the process is mighty small.

Buy an extra c-clip version of the master link (used on the V-8 timing chains) and use this to connect old to new for pulling the chain thru. Then use the permanent link to attach the ends together when finished.
