71inka02, Very touching. I shared every feeling with you. I had the good fortune to share that experience for my daughter and her husband with our 1978 300SD, Brilliant Red, beautiful automobile. The car seems to know when it must perform at its utmost. About the only thing that our SD didn't share with yours was the milestone mileage. We now have just under 204,000 miles on it. When we reach the 204,000 mark I will give a tip of the hat to both of us.

Our SD has no permanent name and the names range from The Red Car, or the SD to The Diesel. However the diesel moniker is more populated in our garage because the SD has two stable mates; a 2008 ML320 CDI and a small diesel tractor. They are a proud and competent brace of vehicles.

It really is kind of neat – how we motoring enthusiasts bond with our cars….so is it actually ‘neat’ – or could it be just ‘strange’ – maybe a group of people in need of some serious therapy….?

Let me know when you hit 204,000 --- THE 126 and I will circle the block with full diesel chatter, in honor of your SD….

Good! I will be ready.

These vehicles are beyond just utility people movers, they are remarkable.
