79 300SD ALDA banjo bolt too short??
 

I found information on servicing the ALDA, by cleaning the banjo bolt on the rear of the exaust manifold, that leads to the switchover valve. I first checked this bolt on my 80 300SD since I'm parting it out, to mkae sure I could remove it without causing harm. It was surprisingly clean. So whats confusing me is that when I checked this bolt on my 79 300SD it was half the length as the one I pulled out of the 80, which looked just like all the photos I've seen. Can anyone tell me if this should, or should not be so? Any info on this subject is helpful. Thanks!

Its fine. The 79 was clean because it has no EGR to make sludge in the intake.

and, it's on the back of the intake manifold, not exhaust...

right, intake manifold. My concern isnt that the 79's banjo bolt was clean, the 80's was almost as clean. My concern is that the banjo bolt on my 79 is half the length of the bolt in the pictures, and the one in my 80.

This might be for another thread, but I also noticed that some of my coolant lines are bypassing a box/housing that sits in the rear left corner of the engine compartment. I'll take a picture and post it since I'm actually unsure of its purpose.

The circled areas are where the coolant lines should be connected I'm assuming, since they are connected on my 80.
