Done a 0-60mph time to confirm there is actually a problem?

You have checked to verify the pedal advances the pump arm fully? Common failure on mercedes diesels. Takes two people to do properly.

Then check that the vacuum / boost lines aren't plugged with soot from the EGR.

Turbo euro cars have a normal MW pump with an aneroid. Since he has an M-pump its non-turbo.

.
Have someone press the fuel pedal to the floor.
check the injection pump to see if the linkage has advanced the arm on the pump fully. If you can still move the arm further manually it is not getting to it's stop by the linkage. Repair or adjust the linkage. The pump arm has to reach its stop with the linkage.

I also forgot to mention that you should change the fuel filters if you have not. They may be partially obstructed. This could be basically starving the engine for enough fuel to get up and go. Check the linkage first though.

A much better test would be to read the base pressure in the injection pump. A shortcut to that is to remove the return line from the injection pump and see if fuel is coming out with engine running at idle and reving the engine a little.

This is not as conclusive as establishing you have good base injection pump fuel pressure by actual measurement. Yet if there is no flow from the return you know you are starving for adaquate fuel.

Another test for inadaquate fuel is most of these cars will emit some black smoke if pushed hard. You could have someone follow you and tell you if any is present when you accelerate hard. I suspect in your case there is none at present.

Forget adjusting the pump at present. There are too many other things that need checking first. Is or has this car been using alternative fuels or always diesel? Kind of important to know one way or another if the linkage to the pump is functioning properly.

are you new to this car?
when you take off, are you pushing the pedal all the way to the floor?
is there any obstruction in the way of getting the pedal to the kick down switch?
the non turbo's like to start in 2nd gear, and you have to push the accelerator all the way to the floor to engage the 1st gear kick down. try that.

Ir it's like the early non-turbo's, putting the gear shift in L at a stop and then back to D while still stopped, will cause the car the start in 1st and not 2nd.

It take sof slow but there is a lot of torque because if i take off full pedal it will peel wheels on 2nd gear, but its that dreade1st 20 miles, i did adjust the bowden cable and its doing a little better cause at 1st it would do 1st to 2nd in like 5-10 mph and that wouold make things even worse, im goin to do the test and check if linkage is making pump work properly.
