knocking sound after valve adjustment
 

I just did a valve adjustment on my 85 300SD . It sounds beter and runs beter , it makes a loud ticking sound . It took me a little over 3 hours to do it . I finished it in the dark with one hand on the lite . Did i mess something up or what ???

It could be something else making the noise but it is best to re-check the clearances.
You might simply have adjusted an Intake Valve the Exhaust Valve Clearances.
It has happen to me before.

i heard one of the cyl the int & exh valve position were reversed, so most folks got her confused.Could it be the last one as its kind of out of sync.

I always double check my gaps and nut torques on valve adjustments.

as good as I am, I still use the chart on dieselgiant's adjuster page... and write each one down as I go.

I did use the chart and marked it with thumb print when i went to the next one , but like I said I finished at 9:00 at night . I was glad to have it done. Could made messed it up very easily . Thanks
