I haven't had to do sls lines yet- but I did sneak a new brake line up over the rear subframe.

I got type 46 aw(anti-wear) from TSC for under $20 for a 2 gal jug. I was chasing a leak, and the cost of a gallon was 70% of the 2 gal jug. I have seen it in fleet farm, and O'reallly Auto before, too.the stuff I've seen at menards is NOT type 46.

the type 46 seems to work fine, but it is not recommended in the manual, so use at your own risk, YMMV, etc.

I like the SLS in my TE, the ASD in my E300Diesel, and the convertible of my 300CE cabriolet. They are all worth $13/liter of Febi hydraulic fluid. IMHO, use the correct fluid. Wouldn't friction modifiers cause wear in the hydraulic struts over time?

The only real danger in rerouting the SLS line is that it breaks when you accidentally run over something, and leaves you stranded. You have proven that one is not actually stranded by a leak

It would be clever to protect the metal line with a metal sleeve of some sort (like armoured electric wire with the wire pulled out of it), but it would probably rattle.

I just picked up some ISO 46 /SAE 15 for 17.99 (for 2 Gallons!) at the local rural king (tractor supply meets kmart). It is not "AW".... would you still "suggest" using it?

I used iso 68 hydraulic fluid after an emergency repair. I have iso 32 now and will try it. Got cold here last night and iso68 looks pretty thick.

the iso 32 says it uses high VI base oil? what does this mean? is it ok to use?

read the packaging on tellus 15. does it say ISO46 type oil?

Hello, I researched High VI base oil which seems to be water based??? so I decided against it since most say this needs to be mineral based. I found in another post that someone uses low viscosity hy-gard from john deere tractor. I happened to have some so I used that instead, works fine so far.

I'd think twice about rerouting the line. You'd have a long segment of your new line unsupported and exposed to road debris if you ran it under the subframe.

The current line is clamped to the chassis. On the other hand, the subframe is part of the suspension and does move slightly while the car is in operation. That could cause your new SLS line to flex and develop metal fatigue over time.

The subframe really isn't that hard to lower if galvanic corrosion hasn't welded the bushings to the big bolts. If they are seized, they're probably due for replacement, which means the subframe is probably shifting about quite a bit when the car is moving.
