Replacing crankshaft position sensor? Tach sensor?
I meant to do this when I had all the belts off, but didn't have the new sensor at the time and the belts really needed to be changed.
So I tried the other day and the only tool I could get on the nut was an 8mm box wrench, but there was no room to swing. I don't think a socket would fit, the vacuum pump is in the way. Maybe a u-joint socket...I don't have an 8mm though. Anybody got any tips? How hard is it to remove the vacuum pump? Is it a prohibitively pita? And in case you're wondering...my car didn't have a tach when I got it..just a clock. So I ran a wire from the tach amp socket to the new tach from another car, and screwed on a tach amp. Didn't work. I used the tach amp diagnostic tool that techguy512 made. It told me that my tach was wired properly and had power, but the little light wasn't pulsing from the sensor input. So I'm going to try a new sensor. If it doesn't work, I quit

A friend removed the sensor wire, I'm sure the radiator was out of the car, and there were no belts on, IIRC, he got it off.
