Will a 1982 240D auto transmission fit in a 1980 300TD

I am working on a 1980 300TD wagon N/A. The trans number is 123 270 3201 722.118 02 105 351

The 240D parts car I have has a recently rebuilt transmission part number
123 270 6301 722.117 0206 7847

both transmissions look the same. Both have the vacuum modulator on the right rear of the tranmssion, and niether has the rod on the right side to control shifting. I pulled a transmission from a 1978 300D with trans number 722.118 thinking it would work for my 1980 300TD, but it has a rod on the right side and no vacuum modulator. What to do?

What I understand is that the non turbo auto trannys of that vintage are the same. Someone will know for sure, I'm guessing.

There must be some subtle difference (otherwise they would not have created the new P/N) but I think it should work OK.
