Need your opinion...

I yanked the grill shell off of Bruno to put on Rudolf because Rudy's grill shell had the chrome worn off. While I was f'ing around, I figured why not paint the grill mash black and see how it looks. I used flat black paint and satin clear coat.

Let me know if you like the blacked out look, or if I should put Rudolf's original gray mesh back on (inside Bruno's shell)

Thanks!

I like it. I painted Chase's grille a dark gray and it looks quite nice on the pale car (black would be too dark). But on the dark car, the black looks great, I think.

I like the black, not sure what the reasoning for grey was, but no doubt the Germans had a reason. Maybe its best color to hide dirt or something.

Never question the Germans.

I think the Grey looks good depending on the color of the car. On the darker cars black looks better.

I like the blacked out grill insert on all color cars. I've done it to the white wagon, to the black bat and to China Blue China.
This is simply my preference. Pics are for reference, not to try and forward the point of "this idea is better because I do it". Hope that makes sense....

Black looks ok but when the paint begins chipping it wont look very good.

I liked the blacked out grille, but I think to make it look really good the headlight housings should be cracked open and the grey fins should be painted black too.

Im going to try this out with my spare grille and headlight housings the way I can go right back if I don't like it.

I always thought it was odd that MB put Levolors inside the head lights.

On W123's the "grey" grill will match the headlight surround nicely, however over time the grill becomes a washed out light grey. Black stands out too much and doesn't really match anything.... maybe a grill surround and grill painted black on a black car (or another darker color).

This looks good for a black grill (forget the rest of the car if it's not your style):

See more bugs w/black - plus the bumper plastic that was once somewhat black always grays out. My vote is gray - I guess because it is more understated.

After the "I left the oil fill cap off" fiasco, oil has oozed onto the grill and turned the edges black while the remainder is a washed out grey.
This looks like a possible remedy; but of course I would have to get the oil cleaned off first which could be a problem since it appears to have soaked into the plastic
