I am curious to see what Magic you Indy can work.
From what I have read pulling the Studs out and trying to rotate the lid was a good idea. After that I think your Indy is going to end up hammering something between the Lid and a Filter Housing to separate the Lid from the Housing; maybe in several places. After which some gentle prying.

Since the top surface of the Filter Housing and the Lip on the Lid do not do the sealing if the get dinged up and are dressed off with a file they should be able to be reused.

Trigger is back in business. Mo made a house call this morning and got the lid off. He used a chisel and hammer to lightly tap the lid loose, then used two chisels working both sides to work it off. Of course, the mechanic of 30+ year made it look like childs play, but it did take him a good 3 minutes of precision tapping.

The rubber O-ring had indeed fallen off and jammed in there.

It is good that you posted all this. I have changed the oil about 25 times on two Benzes and only managed to disconnect the vacuum lines a couple of times. Little did I know that there was even a slight possibility of getting the oil filter cap stuck like that.

Now we all know to pay more careful attention.

I'm not so sure it is possible (well, I suppose it is possible)....if one makes sure that the o-ring is pre-oiled like it should be, and that its pushed up into the lid all the way, I don't see how it could get stuck.....

Today I was driving Trigger and noticed the engine temperature started to climb rapidly. I pulled into the Wal Mart parking lot, popped the hood, and discovered one of the coolant lines had come loose.

Guess which one? Right next to the oil filter canister. Some idiot didn't tighten it down enough after his botched oil change apparently.

A gallon jug of new coolant and a tightened hose clamp later, and Trigger was back in business. At least I was lucky enough to be driving by Wally World, and noticed the issue before it overheated.

The best I could find was a Preston brand that claimed to be able to mix with any coolant without issue, guaranteed. Neon green, of course. Its holding its temperature fine now.

Tighten it down after oil change? You loosen the hose? On the W126 its not in the way, and on the W123 I just shove it down next to the canister while doing the change. No loosening/tightening required.

Keep in mind I was trying to pry the lid off, and get everything out of the way to make it happen.

Ah yes, that makes sense. I'd have done the same thing.

Similar to above; during my 1st Oil Change I leand on and snapped off one of the nipples on the Brake Booster Vacuum Line without realizing I did so; until my Engine would not shut off.
