Shhh...My 300SD is Hibernating

So we came to an agreement that i can keep both the E320 and the 300SD (300SD is my back up car), Now to my question is there anything that i need to know or do when i am keep my 300SD that is no longer going be my daily driver....What about the fuel?? Should i add some additive to prevent alge to grow if so what is the additive called, cover the exhaust pipe?? I am going to start up drive every twice a week....

When I asked this question about storing my 300D for the winter, I got:

- add startron or other fungicide to the tank (I use Kill-Em)
- keep tank full to prevent any condensation
- change oil every few months instead of by miles
- no harm in covering tailpipe
- if possible do not store with tires in direct contact with cold ground (garage OK, otherwise keep tires on plywood planks)
- disconnect battery and keep inside

Driving every two weeks probably isn't necessary, unless you want to. My summer 300D has been sleeping for four months now. Its about time to wake it up...

DD has given great advice. I agree with everything he said especially topping off the tank...

Well currenctly i cant afford $50 worth of gas :( for now i just spend loads of money to pay off bills!!! So i guess i can drive 2 twice a week and fill fresh gas as i go, well its not really a storing, i will be using it but not as much as i did before.

You'd have to leave it laid-up for a year or more to be concerned about diesel fuel in it's tank.

With some infrequent use the issue of the battery going bad should hopefully not occur. Todays batteries seem to dislike no activity more than batteries in much earlier years.

If you're going to drive it twice a week, you shouldn't have to do anything special, as long as at least one of those drives is long enough to get everything up to full operating temperature.

In the Seabees, we have a status called Live Storage where equipment mostly sits unused and gets operated once a week. A five mile minimum drive for road-going pieces is used to get everything good and warm. As long as this program is followed, everything seems to work out pretty well unless the piece has been stored for many years. Dead storage, where the thing just sits in a warehouse for years or decades is a different matter.

I concur with the posts above. I leave my 123 somewhat dormant during the winter. I don't want salt to make it disappear. I just start it every once in a while... maybe 2 x per month and run it up and down the drive way to make sure things are lubed. I let it come up to full temp and then tuck it back in.

It's now wake up time and time to spiff her up for the season.
