clutch slave cylinder question
I just replaced my clutch slave cylinder in an attempt to resolve my non-working clutch problem. It didn't solve the problem, but I have a question about the clutch slave that I removed.
When I push in the rod and then put my finger over the hole for the threaded fitting on top. It creates a vacuum and the rod stays in, and only pops out when I take my finger off. This means the slave is not broken, right? |
I would just move ahead and replace the master at this point. You took a logical gamble and replaced the less expansive part now replace the other component.
|
Yea, I am going to move on to that next.
So you think that slave was fine based on what I mentioned? Also, when I put the new slave in, I didn't notice any hole or slot in particular that the rod slides into - it just seemed to press against something inside the transmission (couldn't really see in from the angle I was in underneath the car), and I had to push it in against the spring-back within the slave until I got the bolts threaded in. Does it sound like I put it in correctly? I never saw any mention of that in the tutorials I read. |
Cant say anything about your old slave, but your description of the installation sounds normal to me. Take the front seat out if you want too make the master cylinder job somewhat easier, Theres not enough room for my old body under there;)
|
Thanks for the tip about the seat Steve. I will do that... I am not old, but I am tall, so I could use the extra room :D

Someone must know the answer to my initial question. Anyone?
|
I am not sure that the test you tried is conclusive. If the slave doesn't leak, it is probably OK. It only takes a minute to disassemble it and look at the bore and seal condition- why not do that? I think all the nasties tend to settle in the slave eventually causing problems.
How hope lick your clutch problems. We ought to figure a way to convert these to cables- mine has been a PITA too. Rick |
