Did it used to close tight? Check to make sure nothing is in the way. I understand there are adjustable rubber "bumpers" near the front.

Yo there,

the latch can be adjusted by loosening the two screws on the hood just behind the grille, I suggest that only fine adjustments be done, and you should put some markings on its original position before attempting to loosen the two screws. If too large an adjustment is made, it is possible that the hood can jam shut, and will be a pain trying to pry open the hood. (Ask me how I know! )

I would try to use some lubricating oil like WD40 to oil the catch before attempting to adjust the bonnet catch, it could possibly be just the catch being tight from lack of oil and does not return to its actual resting position.

Let us know of your progress.

I adjusted the rubber bumpers and it finally closed
but the problem is that it is not even, on the right side the hood goes down lower than it is suppose to.

I know this might sound stupid... but did you push the hood release latch back in before you closed it, I've had that happen to me before, just push it back in, push down on the hood and all is well in MB land

I think you must adjust the hoodlock on your hood a bit to the side where the hood is to low.

I think the lock is pulling the hood to one side .

If you loosen the screws just a litlle and you try to adjust it carefully with a hammer a litllebit I think your problems are over.

My 1982 300SD (126) is suffering from a balky hood latch. I have searched this discussion group, and several other fairly exhaustively. I have done a google search, to no avail. I am hopeful that someone out there can help me. Specifically, the port side latch does not secure the hood. The starboard side works fine. My cables run free. I have cleaned the latches thoroughly to no relief. I am concerned that the hood will open unexpectedly. Thanks in advance.

Holy thread revival batman!

Anyhow, look for maybe a broken spring or something stopping the one latch from holding.

I wish it was a spring, but the spring seems to be fully functional.

I believe some of the best value gained from this site is in the history. Best to research fully before asking a question

Hood Wont Close SHUT

Ive always waxed my CF hood to make it shine nicely but I heard that it is bad for it. I wasnt sure if this was true or not because I have never had a problem with it. Anyone?

Buffalo, New York = salt/chemicals on the road.
The most common issue is corrosion in the hood latch pivot points.
If it has jammed in the open position = you may be forced to dis-mount them for lubrication and manual exercise.

Read this thread for information on opening your hood.
Hood cable, hood latches, hood release, HELP! cannot open hood!
