Of course, we ran the best fuel available, so detonation was never an issue. Keep in mind that DCR (Dynamic Compression Ratio) in a gas engine is influenced by valve events. This is a key point to consider when designing a camshaft...Robert

Cool. But it doesn't work for me. I don't know why.
Edit... Yes it does! I swear, after your first comment on this I went and clicked the icon. Stayed blue, nothing happened. Now it turns red! I'm stoked! (OK, maybe I'm getting carried away....)

So would anyone here recommend replacing this Thermostat while doing a citric acid flush?

I never noticed that one before. Thanks!

Thumbs up

I've seen vehicles make FASTER trap times in the drags when hot lapping... i.e. running down the strip, turning around, and doing it again. These are gassers with modern SEFI port fuel injection...

I'm not a fan of low temp stats.

We ran mid 10 second times @ 130 mph, consistently, with this vehicle and that was with dual four-barrels, dual point ignition and a 4 speed gearbox.

Modern EFI cars require high coolant temperatures to get the ECM to go into closed loop...Robert

P.S. My recorded lap times at Willow Springs, Buttonwillow and Laguna Seca, when I made the switch to road racing this car, were all made with low coolant temperatures and all times were fast & consistent...Robert

Yes for closed loop... but they do not take until 180F+ to do so.

Interesting....

Our 2008 Dodge needs 178°F to 186°F to go into closed loop...but, keep in mind, that's likely more of a ULEV rating effort than anything else.

Ironic...

I just installed an ECM/coil upgrade on a 2006 Pontiac GTO with the 6.0 litre engine and part of that package was a 160°F thermostat...Robert

Dr. Bert,

If your oil pressure drops when using the 60* then your oil is hot enough to release any trapped moisture.

heat destroys engines, cooler operating temperatures are desirable for longevity (given certain parameters).

I am surprised that you didn't notice a drop in fuel economy.

The fuel consumption on the 617.950 is always consistent. It never changes much with averages of 24-25mpg and a best ever of 27mpg.

That's with the ALDA CCW to the stop and 14.7 psi of boost. EGT's are within acceptable limits under load..Robert
