616 swap, any special tools needed?

If it looks good I'll be swapping an 83 euro 616 for an 84, and my wife will kill me if it needs much work beyond that. Are any special tools required? All I can think is a 12 pt for the flywheel (seller's keeping it w/ the 5 spd).

Should have no oil cooler, both are euros.

Can't think of any, but why don't you keep the flywheel with that engine and avoid a potential balance problem? Give the seller yours.....

You need the matching flywheel or its possible the engine will be out of balance.

Already pulled and in his 300D, I think, but I'll ask. Thought that was supposed to be neutral balance?

Its only a 9/10 chance of being neutral.

So how bad a problem is being out of balance?

Look very careful and if you dont find a witness mark on the FW your home free. I've done several swaps and only found one that had witness marks on the crank and FW. (my first swap)

ask the guy if he had it balanced before putting it in so at least you will know if it was neutral or not. Ive now had 3 flywheels neutral balanced and all were off by 20 grams or more. if that doesnt sound like a lot, it was two 3/8 dia x 3/8 deep holes on the edge.

So you mean like a punched dot or 'V'? I got a V that lines up with the BDC mark on my harmonic balancer.

The "mark" is a straight little "cut" in the FW extending up from the center hole, as I remember less than a 1/2 long. You need to use emery cloth to look for it, not easy to see.

The flywheel bolts are supposed to be one use items. I have done 3 swaps and reused them. Just FYI.
