Starter Wiring Harness question: Missing wire?
I picked up 1979 300D and trying to get it started. I installed new #3 gauge Hot wire Battery lead to starter and cleaned wiring harness attached to soleniod. I noticed that it had three yellow wires attached but the red wire had been cut off. I don't know where that is supposed to go. Waiting for Wiring diagram from MBUSA. Car has remote starter button to the left of the steering column. I don't know if that is standard install or add-on.
I had glow pulg lite before I changed terminal now I don't Any suggestions? See attached photo |

Can't help on the wire but the remote start button is definitely an add-on.

Haynes' (Mercedes Benz Diesel 123 Series) has a diagram for your year/model. It shows these connections to the starter:
Black- Battery + (2)Red - Alternator (1)Red - Ignition Key (1)Violet - Air Coditioner Relay & Glow Plug Relay It sound like there may have been problems with the ignition switch and a separate "rig" was set up for starting and glow plug. (I hate finding rigged crap like this on a car. It makes me wonder what other maintenence isn't up to par.) Hope it's easily sorted out.
