Does the vacuum reservoir have anything to do with tranny?
You know the weird-looking vacuum reservoir underneath the rear package shelf? Is that only for door locks and stuff? Or is it needed for the trans to work right?
The reason I'm asking is I'm so fed up with my transmission I'm thinking of capping off every vacuum line aft of the firewall, except the ones going to the ignition switch. At least temporarily until I get my tranny shifting right. So do I need the vac reservoir in order to have the trans modulator work correctly? (on '81 300CD)

No but enough leaks in the wrong direction could cause problems.
