Oil pressure at 1.5 Car is Slower....

After driving 60mph-65mph for about 30-40mins in my 240D, at the first stop light the low pressure drops to 1.5 It appears that when I start off the car is slower the when the oil pressure is at the 3 mark. Is this true or is there a problem?

As soon as you hit the accelerator pedal, oil pressure should rise very quickly to 3.
It's normal for oil pressure to drop to 1.5-2bars when idling warm.

Yep, it goes right back to 3 when hit the accelerator, but it appears slower then when the engine is cold for some reason.

Maybe what you're feeling is the car starting in second gear, which is often the case with the 240D auto. As opposed to when it's first started- when it will take off from first.

I don't know of anything that would make the non-turbo more sluggish when warm... it's usually always the other way around.

Maybe your right about it starting in second gear instead. Is this normal?

No....all of the diesels are supposed to take off in 1st all the time. A 240 starting in second would be reeeeeeeaaal slow. Count the shifts. There should be 3 firm shifts when in "D" and accelerating from 0-40 or so. (1-2,2-3,3-4)

The 240D automatic I drove a couple of times would start from second unless I came to a COMPLETE stop.
Meaning, if I was crawling to a stop, then accelerated, I would have been passed by a dead man in a wheelchair, having to take off in second.
I'm not sure this is your problem at all, just a guess, because usually these cars get peppier when warm.

Make sure you have plenty of oil ,an oil change with filter is always a plus. When you open up your valve cover cap while running ,are you getting copious amounts of white smoke? If so the old 240 is going thru the stages of blow by.Old age brings it on ,keeping your oil changed might help but little can be done without cost. When you have it blowing out the tail pipe is when its time to worry.A valve adjustment might be in order by a MB tech also.My 190d had plenty of blow by ,Im sure that car had over 300k ,it still would work hard without a peep of roughness in the idle.It ended up with a new owner .Im not sure if its still out their ,but Id like to think so.

From what I read from the manual is that the transmission would only start in 1st if you hit the kick-down switch, then it is normal to start off in 2nd. Sounds right?

I haven't checked recently but when I did, there wasn't alot of blow-by and just changed the oil and filter. Very soon I will have the valves adjusted again, it is been about a year since I did it last.

Argus ,you brought up a good point ,I check after start up and its pegged ,after its warmed up Im getting a reading of just under 2 bars,84 300CD.After reading a thread here about oil filter replacement their was a detail about the assembly that caught my eye.It mentioned the little O rings on the long bar of the assemble that sits down at the bottom of the housing, the part with the top of the oil filter housing attached,at the end of that shaft youll find 2 or 3 O rings that youll need to replace if needed .It made some kind of difference in your oil pressure pushing thru your filter, and thus your oil pressure reading .Thats how it read anway ,not sure if its the case here ,but doesnt hurt to look it thru.

I checked mine oddly enough it's about 1.6-1.7 bars i'm suprized doesnt make much sense i was running 5w40 in winter time and after getting it hot the pressure would be about 2 bars with the 5w40.

so having 15w40 running lower doesnt make much sense i recently just replaced both oil lines and verfied the oil thermostat doesnt open to about 140-150 degrees best i recall someone speced it at 125 mine took higher reading the external temp of the housing which is prolly about right. they'res a oil pressure thread going seems about everyone's is between 1.5-2 warm so far so i wouldnt worry too much.
