Im doing a survey of 3 different readings of your cars oil pressure.
TO START MAKE MODEL YEAR MILEAGE #1 )at cold start up #2 )after 20 minutes of driving, then ,at a stop #3 ) the car at 30 mph or more after 20 minutes of driving Designed to make light of your diesels oil pressures health and some recommended remedies that may be needed for follow up service. Keep em runnin for a long ,long time. |
1984 300D
148K on engine 3 bar at start up Slightly above 2 bar at idle after 20 minutes 3 bar running at 30 mph. |
1982 300D
180.5K Old Gauge (replaced due to leak) 3 bar at start up 1.8 bar at idle after 20 minutes 3 bar if rpm over 1800 New Gauge 3 bar at start up 2.2 bar at idle 3 bar if rpm over 1800 Lesson: quite a bit of variability in the gauges.... |
3 bar on startup.
1.2 bar on warm idle .9 bar when the engine is too warm after a highway drive with a bad fan clutch. Any application of the throttle moves the gauge to the top. -Jason |
83 300D 309,000 miles
1. 3 bar 2. 1.5 bar 3. 3 bar at anything over about 1200 rpm 77 240D 228,000 same as above. |
90 300D 2.5T
121K 1. 3+ bar after about a second 2. 1.5ish bar at hot idle, as little as 1.2 after running hard. Fluctuates between 1.5 and 2 bar as oil cooler thermostat opens and closes. 3. 3+ bar at anything over 1500RPM. |
1980 300D
159K on engine 3 bar at start up Slightly above 2 bar at idle after 1/2 hour @70-80mph 3 bar running at 30 mph, and 3 bar at anything much above idle. |
1982 300SD - 280k on engine
1. 3+ bar 2. 2.1 bar 3. 1.9 bar 3+ bar above 1100 rpm even when hot 1990 300E - 138k on engine 1. 3+ bar 2. 1.8 bar 3. 1.4 bar 3+ bar at anything above 1300rpm even when hot Both engines are running Shell Rotella 5w40 Synthetic Diesel Oil My dad and brother's diesels show about the same pressure behavior as my diesel does |
1984 300CD
Replacement engine - mileage unknown 3 bar at start up Roughly 2.25 bar at idle after 20 minutes (or how ever long it takes to get above 85*C) 3 bar running at 30 mph. Mine jumps from 2.25 at idle to 3 bar almost instantly off idle. By the time the engine hits 1000 RPMs it is pegged at 3 bar... |
1983 240D 4-speed standard
1. 3 bar 2. 1-1.5 bar 3. 3 bar No tach, but oil pressure hits 3 at anything but idle. |
1983 300sd
284000 miles 3.0 bar at start ~2.0 bar at warm idle 3.0 bar with almost any throttle input |
1981 300D
225K on engine 3 bar at start up 1.75 @ idle warm engine 3 bar above idle 15w40< external temp 80 degrees |
1982 240D Automatic -
3 bar at startup. Min around .9 bar hot idle in D or 1.2 bar hot idle in N. 2.5 - 3 bar hot at 30 mph (depending on gear & rpm) 1981 240D 4-speed - 3 bar at startup. Around 1.5 - 2 bar hot idle. 3 bar hot at 30 mph. 1984 Euro 300TD 5-speed - 3 bar at startup. Around 1.8 - 2.2 bar hot idle. 3 bar hot at 30 mph. Speedometers on all have been repaired or replaced so actuall mileage is unknown, but estimate around 200K. Happy Motoring, Mark |
1987 300D
255,000 miles 1) pinned (3 bar) 2) a little over 2 bar 3) pinned 1978 240D 364,000 miles 1) pinned (45 PSI) 2) a bit over 30 PSI 3) pinned ... this 240 I've only had since January and have only put about 200 miles on it, but those readings have been consistent. I don't know my Jeep's oil pressure, since it doesn't have real gauges ... plus I assume you meant MBs only. |
280E / 1977 / ≈ 150K
#1 ) @ cold start up: > 45 psi / > 3 bar #2 )after 20 minutes of driving, then, @ a stop: ≈ 20 psi / ≈ 1.5 bar #3 ) the car @ 30 mph or more after 20 minutes of driving: > 45 psi / > 3 bar Using: Mobil 1 - 0W40 |
1979 240d, 146k miles.
1 second after starting - 3 bar After 20 minutes, 2.25 - 2.5 bar Anything above low idle pegs the needle on 3 bar, instantly. Right now my car has 0-40 full synthetic. |
83 300sd
161k miles 1 - 3 bar at cold idle 2 - 1.5 bar at warm idle 3 - 3 bar warm at 1200+ rpm 1990 300d 192k miles 1 - 3 bar at cold idle 2 - 1.8 bar at warm idle 3 - 3 bar warm at 1000+ rpm |
Quote:
1. 3 bar pegged 2. Just under 1.5 bar 3. 3 bar pegged 3 bar achieved at about 1500 RPM Oil is Mobil1 0W-40 (I think the oil type and grade would be a very worthwhile addition to all these posts.) |
