Four volume set that I bought new when I bought the car in 1983 was about $300. At that time, they would not sell the volume on the climate control. I'd like to find one to complete my set.
Volumes cover all models including SL and TD.

They might not have had it printed up yet... the AC was installed in the US after the cars got here according to TCane... and the fact that all the fittings are US threads tends to support that theory. Something about trade negotiations agreements or something...
I am lucky to have found the AC manual... more important in Texas than some places...
I would like to trade my 1981 Maintenance manual for a 1980 to match my car...

More like Americans make better AC units. Most cars in europe did not have AC, no need. That price was for chassis and engine manual set. There are others I have seen, quick reference for instance. There was a whole set on the test tools as well I believe.

I have 5 books in my set, one for the engine, two for the body and chassis, an electrical troubleshooting manual and the climate control manual. My CC manual was printed in 1988.
Also I don't believe the A/C systems were installed after the cars reached the US. I have owner's manuals from a couple of European models and they show the same A/C systems including the automatic climate control system. I think the only reason they may have SAE threads is that they use US made compressors, Delco and York types.
The CD manual are OK but the photos are not as good as those found in the printed manuals.

Engine manuals in paper are currently close to $100. The 2-volume chassis/body set is about $160, the A/C manual about $85. Have never seen an electrical manual for the 123; my 124 electrical manual cost me about $50. Any way you cut it, unless you find someone who doesn't know what he has, you'll pay $300+ for the complete set. The CD-ROM from MBUSA is missing a few pages, it seems, the pictures are contrasty, and the schematics have about one bit too few of resolution, but I'd start there before investing big bucks on paper manuals if it turns out the CD is good enough. OTOH, there's always Haynes.

The Hanes book is not that bad and it's better than a Chilton's.
