How many people have 220 vehicles or experience with them?

I have just acquired a 1971 220D that seems to run well, now that I have fixed some minor items with many more to go.

The car even starts without use of glow plugs! I found this out because the GP circuit was not originally grounded, lol!

However, I'd like some infor from some more experienced 115 owners/mechanics about this car. The 615 engine appears basically robust, from what I have seen, and its biggest design flaw appears to be lack of sleeves, thus rebuilds get to be expensive (tho I have thought that sleeves could be added if the pistons were good.

On this car, remaining items are:
>> Rebuild vacuum pump
>> Redo clutch slave cylinder
>> Rebuild all 4 calipers
>> go through entire fuel delivery and charging sytems

I'd like others to chime in, and make me aware of weaknesses, possible problems etc.

At this point I just need a vacuum pump, 4 calipers and discs (probably) and the rubber connector whooziss that goes from the intake manifold to the air cleaner

If you have parts or info, please chime in. I expect I'll learn a lot about this car as I get it prepped for sale, now that I have discovered my son doesn't want it.

Let him spend all of his money on a Ford POS that's 2o years old and see how far he gets .

You need to find one of the MB factory service manuals... one of them covers the 615,616,normally aspirated 617...
I know of a parts car on Hwy 95 near Temple Texas in a radiator shop back yard...I am sure he would let it go for a couple of hundred if anyone is interested...
It has a column shift.

Thanks Jordaan,

So far, two improvements would be rubber pieces: the boot around the shift lever (it's a four speed floor shift manual) and all the plastic/rubber in between the metal air filter canister and the air intake. It looks like a large rubber funnel, this one is mostly duct tape, lol.

----------------------
It does have two block heaters: the canister type and an originall inset block heater. I'm betting the block heater doesn't work because the plug is corroded or cracked. It's probably original, therefore 38 years old. 11 bucks buys a new one from *********.com, that's where I got the last one for the 240D I have.

PM me and let me know if they have them, no reasonable offer refused.

Thanks

I agree. I have sleeved lotsa Citroens.

I have even sleeved a 30 DeSoto with another guy. And that one used 1/64-inch measurements for tolerances!

It's just nice to have them pre made and able to be ordered from a catalog like in the OM 616 617

Can't be of much help. The only 220 I have owned is the one you are now working on. Did you figure out what the oil pressure issue was?

OK... I guess I assumed since you did not know the engine could be sleeved that you did not have the engine manual....

you can buy a rubber shift boot from Fastlane. They're less than $20 if I remember correctly.
However, after a few weeks, it starts to eat into itself where it rubs on itself during shifts. I'm currently looking for a good alternative.
