W124 Lowbeam Bulb Issues
Hi Guys,
I am having a problem with my Lowbeam on the drivers side. Basically it will turn on and turn off by itself! the bulb is brand new, so i have had to drive with the highbeams at night so i avoid getting a ticket. Any ideas on how to test this or fix it? THanks ! |

Short or Mis-Wire
Time to get the Wiring Diagram and DMM (or Analog MM) and get busy.
The grounding points behind each Headlight Assembly are notorious for causing false diagnostics and other problems. [Clean and Tight are the operable words] Outside chance Ignition Switch is "Foolin with" you,But start with the basics first. 'Round Here, High beams will get you a ticket, faster than no lights at all! 'Regularly see the Intellectually Challenged operating "After Dark" (or should that be politically correctly termed "Post Sunset" ?)with ONLY Parking Lights. (They turn on the PLs, ['forget they've done so. 'Difficult to remember with the Whoofer Pumping 865 Db!] and then think that because the Dash Lights are on... that they also have Headlights on.) Two nights ago,10:30 P.M. ,Pickup truck on a rural road ,driving with Emergency Flashers ONLY.(He was gonna make sure NOBODY hit Him!)

Each lamp has its own fuse. A corroded/loose fuse could cause this as well. I've used the copper element type to lessen the corrosion.

Most likely your problem is a loose connection between the harness plug and the headlamp assembly. Make sure all the pins are clean and that the socket is getting a good solid grip, it should be pretty hard to remove. If it just slides right off easily thats your problem. Opening up the socket on the harness and slightly "closing" the female pin openings will cause it to get a better grip when installed....solving the light issue.
