Air intake ideas please...

My factory radiator just rusted itself, they're too expensive and I had one from my former w201 laying around (Behr) that was only used for about 1 year (it's almost new), so I swapped them out!
Needed some triming because it's wider and some new clips but was a pretty straight job, just one small problem...
The air intake from the w124 is aside from the radiator but with the one from the w201 there is no space now for the tube from the intake, so itīs just laying around in the engine compartment!
I need some ideas to draw air for the engine...

By the way, with the w201 radiator the engine is much cooler on uphills!

On my 250D the plastic 'accordion' tube and inlet air scoop have been missing since I've had it (along with most of the plastic pieces in the engine bay , so the air is just sucked from the engine bay. I've never had any problems with this, and cold air is no where near as important to a diesel engine as a spark-ignited one, it shouldnt noticibly affect your power.

Cooler air is more dense (oxygen rich). . . that is what intercoolers are all about . . .

Yeah but a correctly operating diesel will always run 'lean' with excess amounts of air. In a diesel its the fuel that makes power, and your injection pump doesnt know what your doing to your air intake (except by the ALDA in a turbo engine - his is N/A) so it wont affect the fuel delivery .

I started a Thread about 1 year ago where I put a temp probe on the out side of the inlet on the Air Filter of my 84 Fed 300D; which places it about about at #1 cylinder in the Engine Compartement.

I drove around and what I found is that the only time the under the hood temp would rise high was when the Car was stopped and idling.

Even driving at City Tarffic speeds when the car is moving there is enough air flow that the under that the hood temp is close to the outside Air temp.

So in my even with the Plactic Cold Air Inlet removed; except at idle there is not a significent differance in the temp.
This my be different with other models such as ones with a Belly Pan or smaller space in the Engine Compartment.

I also believe the "excess amounts of air" comment is true.

You'll love this !

The '90 to '93 W124s (300D over here,250D everywhere else on the Planet)
Have the "Plastico" "Belly Pan" for Noise Control,Aerodynamics,Cleaner Engine
and Engine Compartment Temperature Control.
They also have (about) 5" X 9" Louvered Thermostatically Controlled "Doors"
that Open when triggered by Heat. One each on either side of the engine compartment.

The W124 should be taking air from the right fender, not by the radiator.

No, hes in Poland, where nearly all W124 diesels are N/A and the early ones (OM601-603) take the inlet air from a scoop by the radiator.

Yeah its a real shame mine have been lost to one of the car's 9 previous owners. Unfortunately I'm assuming theyre very expensive from the dealer so wont be replacing them.

LOL, I have the "Plastico" "Belly Pan", and also have the "doors", but they're not connected to anything so they don't open...

I just don't like the scoop laying there...
