Hi guys a friend of mine is having an issue that's outta my league. See his questions below and respond quickly. He needs to get it back together.

Do you know how to change an injection pump? b/c I have a rebuilt one
from pacific injection-I can remove the pump, there's a key on the
pump and it seems simple enough. The timing is already set-do I just
put it in and go? I assume it's locked into position w/perfect timing
but-how do I unlock it-or do they just go in and that's it?!

I took out the injection pump yesterday because it'd been leaking but
now... I thought I knew how to install the other rebuilt pump but I
have no clue.
Do you have any idea?! I know there's a tooth to help guide it but
not sure what the hell it has to do with anything because it goes into
a coupler onto the other gear inside the engine-do you have any idea?!
I know it has something to do with the timing.

Go to the below site and depending on which Fuel Injection Pump you have you will need tor remove Item #78 or #78E from the Old Fuel Injection Pump and install it on the Rebuilt one.

There is no way to "Lock" the Injection Pump in time. (Also I believe your Injectin Pump is not lubricated by the Engine Oile; you must add Oil into the top of the IP and there is a plug in the side of the body that you remove and do not fill above the level of the plug or some have a little Dip Stick.)

I am not exactly sure about your Injection Pump but on the later models on the splined Drive hub (item #78 or #78E) there is a section with 2 or 3 splines missing; making a flat spot on the hub. That flat spot lines up with a mark behind it on the Injection Pump that is at about the 11 O'clock position.
You would line up the timing marks on the Front Crakshafte Pulley/Dampner to the proper degrees (I do not know what they are) and with the #1 piston going up on the compression stroke.
You would insert your Injection Pump so that the Bolts/Studs are in the center of the range of the adjusting slots on the Injection Pump.
After that you would hook up the necessary stuff to "Drip Time your Injection Pump.

Except for what degree marks to use Drip Timing is similar for most of the Engines. This means you can look up some of the other Threads and see how the Other Injection Pumps were timed.

There is also a special section in this forum for the more Vintage Mercedes. They may be able to give you more detailed info.

If you live in a large City another source of timing info could be the Main Public Library. The timing info used to be available in the big hard cover Imported Car Motors and Chilton type manuals.
