I like them dirty.
That was a great idea. Must try for my next cup of morning coffee.

It's an interesting test. What they don't show is the extra CO2 the DPF equipped car puts out.

I've seen some interesting retrofit DPFs. One used a "filter" that was a wire mesh, which could be electrically heated to burn off the soot. If I could get something like that cheaply I would install it on both of my cars.

It's also not fair to compare the new TDI to an old W115. They should have used a 2003 car for the "traditional" diesel. The 2004-06 TDIs actually soot a little bit more from the factory... My guess is they're trying to keep the EGTs up to keep the cat going.

Which means nothing.

I hope you have an extra $3000 handy to feel good about the exhaust coming out of your dirty engine only looking clean.

I bet that 115 just needs a good ol' valve adjustment.

Stand back ----- let the flames begin. Maybe they should have used biodiesel. Just kidding -- no response needed

Maybe new injectors too.

Anyway, it'd be nice to have a cleaner car. But if I had $2k +500/month, it'd never make it to the dealer.

No flame intended.

I will use biodiesel when M-B says it's OK to use B100 rather than just B5, and when every farmer who sells, or supplier of, products used in biodiesel uses biodiesel 100% for every internal combustion engine they use whether they own them or not, and when all those who tout biodiesel and alcohol based fuel do the same.

It is expected when comparing a current car with a 20+ years car. 20+ years is a long time in technology. If you fall for the sale gimmick then that is too bad.

One thing that has not changed is the internal combustion engine design, no one has come up with a better design yet except the wankel engine. But it runs on gas. I will keep my MBZ for now. Thanks but no thanks.

My SDL lays down some nice smoke when I lay on it.. I do it on purpose when ever in front of a prius owner to offset their smug emissions..

It's even more fun when you do it to that shiny white Z3 or Z4 that's been tailgating you for three miles.
