300D creaking front suspension

I've been having a creaking sound coming from my front suspension for the last few months. Is it the bushings on the sway bar? I've tried spraying them with WD-40, which seems to quiet most squeeks and groans, but it didn't help.

So this is the culprit? IIRC is a real PITA to replace.

My bet is the ball joints, how are the boots on them?

They looked fine. I looked them over when I had the car up on stands for the transmission conversion. The creak is more like a groan but it does seem to occur when turning into a parking spot that's slightly uneven.

Sounds like my SD...it has bad ball joints with torn boots.

I'll have to get a better look the next chance I get and I'll also try spraying the guide rod support's bushings at the same time.

Check the supporting joints too.
You may want to lube one item at a time, to isolate the culprit.

If the ball joints are still tight and have intact boots I often squirt grease into the boots with a needle attachment on my grease gun. You can put off replacing joints often for a good while.

Eventually you will have to replace them though.

If it is the ball joints or something else structural...you must replace it..
but if it is rubber bushings then Ru-Glide is made for that... dilute muratic acid....
search the archives using my name for more...

It seems the noise usually is worse when it rains. I'll have to buy another needle for my grease gun so I can grease everything.
I wonder why MB didn't supply grease fittings on these important items?

I'll see if the bushings are to blame. The sound seems like rubber binding somewhere. I'll look around for the Ru-Glide. If it's just muriatic acid, then I have a bottle.

I guess it's a tire lubricant/cleaner. It can be found at NAPA.

my guide rods have always clunked when changing spped, or over bumps. I would do one at a time. I'm betting on ball joints....

I have the same creaking sound in my 300D and I've trained myself to ignore it.
