Torque specification
I am replacing the rear diff mount thingy tomorrow. Is there a torque spec for the bolts and is it just "good and tight"?
Another question.... I really dumb/odd question. I am replacing the rear diff mount AND the front brakes/rotors. I am going to a military autocraft shop which has lifts. I am guessing I would want to lift the car by the wheels when replacing the diff mount? I know I need to lift by the "frame" for the brakes. Is the rear diff going to fall out and when I take the bolts out? See whatever bay I get tomorrow will be one of two types of lifts or no lift at all. I know it's a silly question.

You might want to revisit that concept!!!
For the differential mount, you will need to support the differential itself with something like a floor jack, while the chassis is supported.. The old mount will have stretched, so the new one will not line up like the old one; it's essential to be able to move the differential up/down. You don't need a lift for either job. A jack and jack stands will work fine and likely cost less. Stand by for the torque values. Last edited by tangofox007; 05-08-2009 at 03:44 PM. |

I reworded my post for clarity. I should have prof read it first.
The autocraft shop bays with lifts are $5 per hour. I am a little scared of jack stands. Plus I do not have any. Plus Plus I am living in a hotel while in Va. Although I have done a lot of maintenance in the parking lot I am not too sure a car on jack stands would be a good idea. Thanks

Maybe things have changed, but I cannot imagine a military auto hobby shop that does not provide jack stands.

ya they have all sorts of tools to borrow/rent whatever. I have never used an autocraft shop before. But I guess I could use a regular non lift bay with jack stands.. That would solve my lack of an autocraft safety card in order to use the lifts by myself. Otherwise I have to get an employee to operate it.
I have to avoid the parking lot at all costs.. the sun really doesn't agree with me, red hair.

The torque values for the differential mount sre:
Mount to frame: 30 Nm Mount to differential cover: 120 Nm. |

That's just a small part of a "package deal." You might not like the whole package!!!

I live in Hopewell, not that far away.
Here's a pic of a Nm to ft. lbs. table.

6.5 hours later and I have new front rotors, pads, rear diff mount, rear diff fluid. Not one fastener came off the front wheels as they should. I had to use an impact wrench for everything expect the 10 bolts that hold the rotors on. I had to use a vice and 2 foot breaker to free those up.
What a PITA Thanks for all the info
