olden Tx salvage jard- Joe Stewart

Well I finally got the CD ready and headed west and made my way to the yard I read about FAP in olden TX-1 mile ease of Eastland Tx. I tried to call first before leaving DFW but the # was a fax. when I arrived the gate was closed. the majority of cars out front were the tupperware clad 86 up 126's with a few 123's and 3 or so delectable 50's sl's under the carport to protect from the west texas hailstorms/sun. I was bummed-called the other 3 and got the recorder @#$^%. So's I kept headin west to FM 600 northside of Abilene-7 miles north of 20 on fm600- and cruised thru the rows lookin for 36-8 GMC's and chevys--none there that old. hit the forign rows and there were approximately 12 or so benzes about 3 were 115s 3 80 sd's and 3 tupperware 126's and the rest 123's.
If yall like the 60's American sleds this is Heaven, there is lots of old detroit heapswith everything from olds aluminum headed 300's to you name it-row after row-but no crack free W123 dashpad fer my little cd. anyway I headed back to olden and sat in front hoping someone would show. Pretty soon a guy pulls up and said Joe Stewart had a stroke last yr and he was supprised becaue he was a slim 30's yr old and a few minutes later his step mother's son pulled up and said Joe has not been doing buisness for the last yr and wouldnt be doing any time soon. I was sorry to hear of his problems, That ole health is--Everthing. I headed back toward Ft worth, the trip was altogether 385 miles on 14 gallons-26-7ish at 65-75 mph, not spectacular. Anybody got a crack free 123 dashpanel?

there is a black one in the yard near me with one crack from the air opening to the edge on the driver side, maybe an inch long, otherwise very nice. my good one is cracked exactly the same way. it could be filled with black silicone and would look very good. i am considering removing it for a spare when I try painting mine blue. if I get it out intact would you be interested?

Your talking about the one on the side of I20 right? I have been trying to get a hold of that guy for a while now. Sorry to hear about his health, but it would have been nice to know. I drive past there every few weeks and think about the stuff I would like to find.

Did they have any CDs in Abilene? Any w/blue interiors? I just have random parts I need now, and Abilene is about 90 min from me. Do you remember what the place is called?

It is in Memphis.......

"Over 500 salvaged Mercedes Benz vehicles on site".....

Of course, it is NOT open to the public. It is NOT a come pull your own part kind of place. And the used parts...are gold coated.

Figured. It's funny, when I was looking to buy a w123, all I could find was silver exterior, blue interior coupes, but not I can't find any in a junk yard.

I really just need the plastic piece that goes under the drivers door, I just haven't been in a hurry because they are few and far between.

I might be going to Abilene this weekend to get some stuff anyways.
