My 240D stranded me.
On the way to work this AM I noticed an odd smell and at the first stoplight in town it was obvious I was low on tranny fluid. Swung it into a parking lot and the line that goes into the bottom of the pan with a bolt through it (what is it anyway?) had broken off and all the fluid leaked out. The line is metal and comes down from the passenger side of the tranny and is held on with what looks to be a banjo bolt of sorts.
I'm sure I'll be needing one of these lines and possibly a pan because I can't see how the bolt would come out without stripping. I'll post in "Parts" after I assess the situation. Any advice or thoughts?

It shouldn't actually come off the pan, but the side of the transmission case, right next to the dipstick/filler tube. It is connected via a banjo bolt.

Yeah, that matches the description. Couldn't get a good look at it. What is this line, cooler return?

Yes, transmission cooler lines. Not sure which one (left or right side) is the return line, but the part where it goes past the engine oil pan, the clamp holding the line to the engine should have a rubber buffer.

Found the part I need.
It's the dang dipstick tube. It just broke at the banjo fitting. What a jacked-up place for a dipstick tube! And it definitely goes into the bottom of the pan. The tranny cooler lines enter the body in front of the pan.
Will also post in "Parts" but does anyone have the tube and can get it to me fairly soon?
