Make sure the brackets aren't bent and causing the exhaust to "dangle". I was going through hangers like candy until I adjusted the brackets to cause the exhaust to be snug against the bumpers. I believe it has been nearly three years.

I have less than 2k miles on a brand new set of four. 2 are already heavily cracked and worth replacing (in my opinion)

why would you want the exhaust vibrations running throughout the body? Is that how it is supposed to be?

Maybe the terminolgy should have been rubber "buffers". They are mounted to the chassis, between the exhaust and chassis, to dampen the vibrations.

On Friday I found myself driving down on the highway dragging my muffler. I found both a figure eight in the middle and a donut on the back all cracked and broken. I zipped tied them on, but the muffler still rattles and wiggles. Any idea how many hangers there are?

Two in the middle on the sides of the resonators (square "8" style ones), two in the rear (normal circle donuts).

I have a straight pipe, only two circles at the back, and they are fine. The pipe weighs about 1/6 what the stock exhaust does. I even managed to snag a couple of the real good MB OEM wire reinforced ones off a 500SEL in the junk yard, they are pretty much brand new. And they were free!

Thanks

I only saw two hangers in the twilight, when I was jerryrigging my car to drive it to a safe place. No wonder it still sounded ominous.
