[QUOTE=ForcedInduction;2201643]Thats the key.

A very well maintained and strictly policed road about 4,000miles away from you in a country where they require years of lessons to qualitfy for a licence and drivers actually know what they are doing.[QUOTE]

BTW, NOT ALL of the Autobahn is unlimited speed, only truly straight and unpopulated areas.

I drove from Stuttgart to Chemnitz aka Karl marx Stadt in old East germany and maybe only 50% is unlimited.

Ditto with Stuttgart to Leipzig or to Berlin.

The Autobahn is NOT a dodge 'em car racetrack. It's meant as an efficient means of transportation.

BTW, IF you go over 250km/hr the cops will stop you to check you, unless you own a Koenigsegg. Then they escort at a respectful distance until you lose them

130 on level ground, '87 300D.

Brochure said 128, I had to see if it was correct. Did it with lots of test equipment hooked up, but it was stock.

Full house beats a ...

The 1983 300SD was a import of some american staff officer who had it brought over from the states-why you would want to bring a 300SD MB into germany was a long story complete with girls, booze, and gambling the MBs owner loved to tell.

My favorite car story was seeing a 1967 Ford Mustang in showroom-like-condition in a small jungle village in the middle of nowhere in Mindando Philippines. Local guy drove it every day and the housekeepers washed/cleaned it every morning. Won from petty chief in a card game and brought in by Carbou (oxen)decades ago-as no good roads led into the mountain village.

I've maxed my 300SD a couple times in unpopulated/empty road areas around 113 or so.....I've taken my W124 300E to around 122 before I slowed down....it had more to give...

Can't that happen at 75 MPH?

I'll do the same thing I would do if I was going 65, 75, 85, 95 or 115.

What would you do?

The faster you are going at the time of a blowout or problem, the more likely that it ends badly. Duh.

Taking a car that fast without everything in top shape and checked out beforehand is dangerous and unwise. Especially in an area with a lot of traffic. Maybe next time a cop will catch you and put you behind bars....it will be deserved.

So you are suggesting that we lower the speed limits nation wide to 30 mph?

Too bad there aren't any cops interested in taking whiny little girls off the streets.

I got to legally do 120 on the autobahn recently and it felt like it was reaching it's limit. I realised driving at high speeds for long periods is what these cars are designed to do, safely -the engines really come in to their own once they're wound up past 3000 revs

btw, I've had a blow-out at 80mph and I didn't even realise I had a flat at first as the car handled so well. Not something that I'd particularly like to repeat though...

What are you? 16 yrs old? Don't take offense. People here really care despite your invincibility fable...

It'd be a shame if this was the last thread you started if you know what I mean...

and an even bigger shame if you bring others with you...

Things must be very sanitised in the US if you think that 115mph is fast.

Average outside lane speed on the motorway in the UK is probably about 90mph. At night you regularly see people well in excess of 120mph.

I've done 135mph in my E300TD, at which point the limiter came on. Which was annoying, I can tell you.

OK, so far one of you have suggested I should go to jail and now you are suggesting this might be my last thread.

You are both pussies.

STFU and grow a set.

Invincibility fable? From where did you pull that?

If you can't do a risk/benefit calculation in your head on the go, you shouldn't be allowed to drive.

Why don't you stay on topic or not post?

The topic of this thread is: "How fast have you had your W124 300D?"

Get it?

If you want to winge about people that drive too fast for your taste, why don't you start your own thread?

he was going, at minimum, 40 MPH over the speed limit. People don't regularly go nearly that much over the speed limit here. In Florida, it's a minimum $1000 fine and you'll likely get the details worked out from a jail cell.
