Instrument cluster lens
Is it possible to change the lens in a cluster in a 300E? My 300TDT is damaged and I have another out of a gasser but the lens is damaged in that one so I would like to swap them.

I've actually done this a few times, not so much on my w124 300E but i've seen similar. You're going to have to use the case too. I think the Lens is pretty much stuck in there and can't be taken out without destruction of the case.
Switch out everything from your cluster and put it in the case of another cluster with a clean lens. Probably take like 30 minutes and well worth it. |
I don`t know, maybe with age heat etc, the glue lets go and the face of the cluster loosens up. I have see several at PNP that are loose and hangong and not scratched or broken.
I had the one on my 85 suddenly fall forward while I was driving. glued it back on. It was scratched some and had a crack in the corner from some dumb a$$ mechanic trying to pull out the cluster:mad: I found a good one out of an 80 300D that was almost perfect. the turn sig arrows are larger that the 85. Try to pull one off, and the thing will probably break since you already have one, then it just a swap of the gauges maybe(Diesel vs Gas) as JORDAN said, 30 min job. Charlie |
I don't know what year it changed, but later 124 clusters have a better light-pipe design and lights the gauges better. I believe that GXSR did a DIY on it.
