High tone beep sound?

I have notice, over about two years, that when I turn my 1984 190d off a short "gingle" in a high pitch sound plays. I thought it was my cd/receiver. I put a new cd/player in and now I every little while a beep sound come from the dash some where. I'm wondering if Scotty is getting ready to beam me back aboard? Is this sound standard for Mercedes? Just wondering.
