What was your first diesel love?

Mine would have been a MWM 2.8 Sprint turbodiesel that I never bought or heard run. Not even avalable in the US except for a few stationary and marine applications. The one I ran across was a 2000 non electronic out of a small european VW bus of some kind, 185 hp--335 ft tq. I would have loved it cept what do you know--the same damn dilema-hooking up a five speed. Aint too easy getting a South american S10 eaton like they use in brasil. Some guy from nashville got it for a land Cruiser by the time I came up with a spare $2000.00. If the General had its head out of it's ass these would have been avalable here long ago--and you guys would have not had to read my BS posts about nothing in particular. International bought MWM a few yrs ago. the 4.0 6 non electronic in the full size 1/2 ton brazil GM's would just be Soooooo bad ass!

was my first. 1957 euro model. four speed on the column, very slow and smokey. i drove it from ABQ to northern ND and MN. it used a quart of oil every hour. i got back and rebuilt it. used a machine shop were the Unsers hang around, sent Al Jr. next door for sodas. anyway, it had lots of rust underneath but it took us around NM on lots of trips. it's probably still around ABQ somewhere.
also, this was in the mid 70's so no on-line forums to consult. made repairs much harder.

Max, my 1984 300TD. Before that it was my uncle's Massey Ferguson tractor. I used to drive that thing all summer, working in tobacco when i was growing up. I loved the sound of that engine and the smell of diesl exhaust!

Believe it or not my Dad had a blue '62 190D 4 sp OTC with an aftermarket 8 track tape player - that also was my first exposure to Canned Heat and Santana.
He was always cussing the prior owner about this or that - we got under it one day and found the shifting linkage was connected with baling wire. It was a grease bucket, but I remember loving the smell and the ride. MB was a huge step up from our '66 Rambler 550 wagon.

I was 12.

My first was years ago, a then-three year old '70 220D. Then, the next year my wife bought a new '74 4-Speed, 240D - it was a rocket ship compared to the 220D.
