Front seat springs, possible switch? Install support.

Hello, it is the novice again. Working on driver's seat comfort in a 300D. I searched about seat springs and found all these interesting repairs, stuffing, and new parts. But I wonder has anyone switched the lesser worn passenger springs over to the driver's frame??? I have a good donor.

What is the proper method for loosening the spring frame on the front seat bottoms? I can see taking the seat out and flipping in over to hammer the frame catches loose, but it seems crude and then...

How do you tighten the frame back, when installing new/replacement springs?

Will the passenger springs fit correctly on the driver's base?
Similar year and model interior of course.

Any tips as well, about getting the fabric lip loose near those tight corners where the backrests attach to the base frame?

Thanks to all those that read!

Yes, the driver's and passenger's seats are interchangable. I'm not sure if there is a write-up here about that but a search may turn up something. Another website has a pretty good manual about how-to for that, mercedes source dot com.

I have searched all over and found nothing specific on removing and installing springs into the front seat frames. Maybe I am looking or describing wrong?
The other website SALEs a manual on seat repair.

I've seen pool noodles and other things but as you said, I don't recall much about upholstery work. I ended up with a purchase of the manual from the other site. From what I gather from it, once you get the seat out and turned over, it's pretty self explanatory. There are no fasteners for the cover and the bottom edge is folded and pushed up in a groove. The tension of the seat springs helps to hold the edge in place. In the manual, the recommendation is a wide blade scraper to pry out and loosen the groove's "hold". To reinstall, after reinserting the the folded material, re-crimp by using a wooden block and mallet. Honestly, I thought the manual was well worth the money with descriptions and photos of nearly every step.

I took pics when I did mine, but not sure if I ever posted them on my photobucket site or not. Yes it can be done, took me about 2.5 hours, but well worth it. Trick is figuring out how to get the track off. For the material, I put it upside down and kneeled on it to release the pressure, and it came off fairly easy.

Yeah, the track is probably the toughest thing to figure out. It seems you have to slide the tracks back and forth many times to line up the screws. I've taken the tracks off but I haven't tried to put them back on yet.

Normally, one does not "install springs into the frames." The entire lower seat "box," including the springs and frame, is exchanged.

If the book that you mention is from the gentleman in Bellingham, WA, it will tell you everything that you need to know. I highly recommend it.

Thanks everyone. I have a comfy passenger donor, so I am determined to figure this out. I have seats out and upside-down, I see the advantage of changing the entire lower seat box!
I have the front and back screws out of the tracks, BUT the third in the middle is always covered by the closed track system?
What was the trick you might have found to get to the middle screw along the tracks??? should I post a pic OR can anyone share one?
Seems like the rollers get stopped by the third screw and will not pass over to free the screw head.

ImBroke: can you direct me to your photos please!

Can you adjust the tracks so that there is a hole over the screw head? It's been a while since I did that job. I seem to remember that there was some combination of adjustments that allowed access, but it was not initially obvious.
