No. The injection pump is run by a timing chain. The chain wears and elongates, but over a very long period of time.

Should they be changed after a certain mileage?
They should be cleaned and tested every 100k miles. Replacing them without testing is more than likely throwing away good injectors that just need to be unplugged of the WVO crud.

Does it smoke much when it does start running? When it does begin to run, is it chugging before eventually being able to stay running or do cylinders catch on suddenly?

I was told that if the nozzles were old that they would not spray as fine and therefore not ignite as well or quickly.
Its especially true of WVO, it leaves a carbon coating that hinders their operation.

Thanks for that.

I discovered that my glow plug relay was occaisionally giving 10v instead of 12v. Replacing that has made a world of a difference for starts and cold idle.

I am still considering getting some Monarchs for the old girl.

You're right. This forum only works if the solutions are posted. Just posting the problems gets to be depressing reading.

The points on the relay had arked and were not sitting right. I tried cleaning them up but they never were quite right again. The new relay has brought the old girl back to life. She snaps to attention like she used to.

Thanks all for the assitance.
