No. The injection pump is run by a timing chain. The chain wears and elongates, but over a very long period of time.

Thanks for that.
I discovered that my glow plug relay was occaisionally giving 10v instead of 12v. Replacing that has made a world of a difference for starts and cold idle. I am still considering getting some Monarchs for the old girl.

You're right. This forum only works if the solutions are posted. Just posting the problems gets to be depressing reading.
The points on the relay had arked and were not sitting right. I tried cleaning them up but they never were quite right again. The new relay has brought the old girl back to life. She snaps to attention like she used to. Thanks all for the assitance.
