Started 300d with no oil
I was doing a bunch of work today on my car and made a horrible mistake. Did an oil change and was distracted and started the car with no oil. I only had it started for about 1-2 minutes. The car seems to be running with no issues but I am worried I may have scored a bearing or did some internal damage to the cam etc. Could I have done any major damage in that short period of time? Any recomendations on what I should do after doing something that stupid.

put oil in it
and don't admit it to anyone.

With Amsoil, there would be no concerns....

Just for your own sake when you go to sell the car dont ever mention it |
i did an even more boneheaded thing today so don't kick yourself too much. i was thinking yesterday i might build this pretty nice crashed 560sec i picked up instead of parting it out...until i basically totaled it today w/ my own rollback truck:furious2::furious2:if that car wasn't a tweener i'd be more pissed but i still fell like a jackass:o

What???
what is a "tweener"?

I think he means a car that is between working and not.

it was hit really hard in the front but has low mileage and is '91 (last model year for the w126 coupe) and came with a clear title; it is (or was) almost too nice to part out but it would take lots of work and $$$$$$$$$ to put it right enough to drive again |

Fill it up with oil and hope for the best. Didn`t do it any good for sure, but maybe no real harm. time will tell.
Getting distracted can sure screw things up. I accidently put 16 qts in a couple years ago, (long story) engine was sounding different and acting weard. I was blowing smoke out the rear, and just knew something bad happened to it. Later that night in bed it hit me, you dumb so&%!@%$&, how could you be so stupid? :o. Drained it and all was well at the proper level. Charlie |
