1984 300CD no throtle until the last bit of pedal

I recently purchsed a 1984 300CD. The throttle linkeage is good. When you accelerate the first 3/4 of the stroke does not change the idle. Once you hit the 3/4 mark it will begin to accelerate and go up to redline. The car also has very low power. Here is the list of things I have already done to try to solve the problem:

replaced the IP
bypassed fuel source, running of a marine tank direct to IP with a 12V pump
replaced injectors
checked cam timming
checked valve adjustment
checked turbo and made sure the inlet was clear of obstruction
the enrichment is getting vacuum and has no carbon build up
exhuast if clear

what is next?

This part is my guess, w0133-1617422 ,throttle linkage ball.It resides at the firewall and if has any wiggle when you move the rod its bad.I test drove a used car once a got a good deal due to this small over looked little part.Go to fastlane parts here and youll find its pretty reasonable.

try reving it from under the hood, pull the lever that says stop towards you(if your standing at the left front fender. If it does then it points to a thottle linkage problem.

Have someone push the pedal down and watch the linkage under the hood to find out where the problem is.

From your description I'm 95% sure it is the throttle linkage as the two above posts state. They tend to get loose over time, just requires some adjustment and tightening.

X3 on linkage. I hope you didn't spend too much money on those very expensive things before checking something simple.

sounds to me like he just started throwing parts at the problem rather than diagnosing the true problem.

Thank you for you help, but the linkeage is not the problem. I can move it from under the hood, and I can watch the linkeage activate the IP and still nothing. If I move the Idle adjustment screw all the way in, I get no change in Idle.

IP timing? Any smoke coming out of the exhaust?

I think part of what the other member ment was to pop the linkage off of the throttle lever on the IP and work the Lever itself by hand and see if you get resonse in the full range of the Lever movement. If so you have a linkage problem.

Also backing off on the idle screw that would normally lower the idle speed should be done without the linkage connected tot he throttle lever. Afer that the (corrected to- length of the linkage) should be adjusted and poped back on. The reason for this is that instead of the Throttle are resting on the Idle Stop it will hang on the linkage.

I think it is also possible that if the Vacuum Shutoff is getting some vacuum it might put the IP in a partial shutoff position. Try disconnecting the Vacuum line at the Shutoff; no vaccum no shutoff so it should not effect the IP at all.

Yes , that little hardened rubber ball sleeved at that joint is very unforegiving ,any play at that connection and your peddle is flat floored for peddle to fuel response .It deteriates over time ,if the plate that holds the piece in place looks old then the joint is old ,its only sold as one piece. Before you do anything else ,remove those two little screws and check it out.
