I'm not sure why anyone would want a drink on the door, you have to move it when you get out, then where do you put it? Just trust it to stay and not spill/tip when you close the door? Not if it's tall. I bought a car with them on the doors, had to replace the door-panels to get rid of it (screws through the leather), but well worth it IMO. Cupholders make more sense in the center console, armrest, or even mounted to the side of the center console (easy to use one on the passenger side if you're the only one in the car most of the time).

I completely agree. The PO put those door mounted cup holders on the car. They made opening the door annoying and slamming it an art form. The palomino colored trays that flip up both snapped off within a year of my owning it. I had to replace the door panels to get rid of them as well. A good center console cup holder would be much better.

Well, in fairness they do say they are rebuilding their website. Those seem to be generic "placeholder" testimonials until they put in their own text. The testimonials don't have anything whatsoever to do with cupholders, and the "Anytown" is another clue to the generic nature of the text.

door mounted holders weren't my preference, but I use the armrest whenever I drive, so the center console was basically out.

I guess I could open the glove box and use the amazing ones inside the door :D

I got a nice inner glove box door from a 83 300CD junkyard car and would you believe that it didn't have those luxery cupholders? I though, geezzz, this car doesn't even have the most basic option from MB.

I did use them to keep track of some screws when I was taking out the center console. They're VERY useful.

Did you have the same kind as I bought? Yes, believe me, the thought of screwing in 4 screws through the leather does not appeal to me at all. But I thought about how time consuming it is to build two cupholders like Chad is doing. Plus, I like that center console area to throw my junk in. Otherwise, I would have to get one of those neoprene junk holders and attach it to my vents which I absolutely hate b/c they fall out.

Only on rare occassions do I buy large cokes or large anything. a medium (excuse me, grande) coffee is what I usually buy. Thus tomorrow morning, I am going to go to starbucks, purchase said grande drink and adjust/screw the cupholders into the door, making sure that the door handle is accessible even w/ a grande drink in it.

I hope this works and does not splash on me on bumps. if yes, i'll be back here in my thread bit#hing that you and some of the other select few were right :P

I was thinking of adding the Fischer cup holder on the right side of the center console stack, right in front of the front passenger seat, using double sided tape on the black part of the center console. My friend did this with his 190E but my problem with the w123 is that the center console stack immediately angles upwards so there isn't much room to stick the cupholder in.

The tape I'm going to use is the gray tacky kind from 3M/Scotch that holds up to 5lbs. and is designed for heavy duty outdoor use.

Somebody I know got the mounting assembly of an old factory MB phone that fastens in the same area, and rigged up the holder part that actually contains the drink. I believe he fastened it to the same part of the center console stack, but this time screwed it in.

My '81 240D came with those, PO-installed on both front doors. Unfortunately, he mounted them above the armrests, and the plastic cupholder 'springs' on the driver's side cupholder failed and it kept flopping open into my elbow - very irritating!
A set of replacement door-panels, cheap from the Pick-N-Pull, eliminated the ugly screw-holes. Then I got a cheap set of black, non-folding plastic door-hook cupholders from WalMart. I cut the hook off one, flush with the rim, and anchored the bottom with a stainless screw, at the front of my center-tray. So when I have a drink, I don't use the center armrest. I can live with that.

My '95 came with the flip up type of cupholder screwed through the leather door panel!! :eek::eek: And to top it off it was broken. I ordered one from ebay to replace it, and it is like the ones above, but in black.
I don't at all like it on the door. It is worthless without pics, I know, but I didn't have any. It is above the door handle, but leaves enough room to grab the handle. It folds out of the way when not in use.
I guess it would be better than nothing, but there had to be better solutions. On the later W124's, you don't have an open center console, you have the sliding door console.

You also don't have a glove box, you have a passenger airbag. Currently, I set my drink down inside the center console. The sides don't allow a drink to go anywhere. This isn't a great solution because it keeps you from having hardly anything in the center console, your only inside hidden storage. OK for me right now as I rarely drive the car so I don't need a bunch of stuff in there. Will try and snap some pics.
The holder that attached to the console area at the floor [will add pics in a minute] appears to be the best solution, providing it works on the W124. The W124 was not a car listed as covered with that cup holder.......
If the '95 becomes a daily driver this summer, this WILL become a problem!

I emailed Mike at ultimatecupholders.com to inquire about his cupholders use in W123, W126 and W124 chassis models of Mercedes. I will post his reply. So far that cup holder is the leader in my clubhouse......

One option for late model W124 owners who have the armrest with a storage compartment is to install one of the door mount or Fischer cupholders inside the armrest and use it that way. When the cupholders aren't in use, you won't even be able to see them. I saw a W124 somewhere that had a cupholder in that position. Don't remember where though, maybe here on the forum or eBay.

If anyone is still wondering about Fischer cupholders, I decided to bite the bullet and try them out. I installed them on the 25th in my center console. I only used them 2 or 3 times in that period before one just fell apart today while opening it. Hopefully it was just a defective holder that doesn't reflect their overall quality. I'm going to inquire about getting a replacement from the vendor.
