How much did our cars cost new?

Is there a website or other authority that tells what our cars cost when they were new? I drive an '84 300SD and I'm curious. Didn't come with any window sticker, or sale info.

In some states (including Nevada), the original MSRP is figured into the cost of your annual registration and is listed on the registration. From this I know that my 300D was a hair under $31,000 new, my 240D was eleven and change, and my 250 was in the mid sevens.

I'm guesssing your SD was around $40,000, but I'm sure someone on here has the exact number.

This thread has a spreasheet I made that has new car values. I'm not sure how accurate the prices are as I got that data from a random web location that I couldn't find again when I made the spreadsheet.

Almost 5 times as much as a diesel VW of the same era. I've seen an original window sticker for an 82 VW Rabbit Pickup. The cost was $7500. My wagon was in the $35,000 range.

Not a bad deal though considering a diesel MB is 10x as awesome as a VW!

Look up your particular year and model. It will list original MSRP.

Yeah, and have you seen what those VW Rabbit p/u are going for on ebay? About the same as a MB, CRAZY! I'd rather get less mpg, and drive a safe car!

Still has almost 4 days left . . . now $1750

To really make yourself feel good, visit this site and convert the original price into current dollars.

Cool

Another thing that is not mentioned often in the value these cars should have factored in but seems to be overlooked is the parts availability. May be more expensive than we would like sometimes but EVERYTHING is available. In fact everything is availble for my 77 Unimog OEM (though the 3 clutch cylinders cost $600 !!!).

That site puts the price of my wagon in today's dollars between $64k-$74k. Wow!
The other site says the MSRP of my wagon in 82 was $32,933.
