I just hope there is still some flesh on the end of your finger to cushion accidental impacts. Mine had basically none as far as I was concerned. For awhile the sensitivity was pretty bad. If this becomes your norm it will self correct. The body seems to have the ability to compensate with time.

Maybe it is something simple, but maybe it is not, anyways it will be something for you to learn more about once your indy fixes whatever is wrong . . .sometimes we all need to step back and get others insight.
Thanks, that's what I figure ... it could have been much worse. I will say AAA was super-helpful and easy to communicate with, and the tow truck got there really fast, and he was careful about loading the car. I had to laugh, while I was fiddling around in the McD's parking lot, a young guy came up and asked if I needed any help. I explained to him what was happening and what I thought was wrong, and he just smiled and said "well, I thought I should be a gentleman and help a lady out with her car, but you know more than I do!" or something to that effect. He also was interested in the car and impressed by the mileage. So even though it was a crappy day, it was made less crappy by the fact that I encountered so many nice people in the process.

Was that a newspaper printing press that did that to your finger? I'll remember not to go near the press at work.

Might be a long shot but check the carpet at the base of the accelerator pedal. The carpet may be occasionally bunched up at the lower pivot point of the pedal.

Yes, fortunatly I had one side towards my index finger that had enough flesh left past the 1st knuckle to be able to fold over, so there is some "padding" but it is still quite sensitive!

Yes PTL our bodies have the amazing ability to heal, but also adapt to things we do to them . . . the Dr. has me "training" the end of the finger nerves, by gently tapping it with a toothbrush!

Yes, it is amazing how only a few "nice people" can make such a BIG difference in others lives, I try to be nice to people, as everybody has a bad day every once in awhile . . .

Yes it was a newspaper, we put out a small monthly newspaper, only 24 pages, all of our equipment is old so we still have a dark room and develope the 12" X 18" film, and burn plates . . . we were just webbing up the press for the first signature . . . we do three of them. . . yes my finger got caught in between the rubber blankets . . .where the ink is transfered to the paper.

Don't worry, you will have it figured out very soon and be cruising in 240D style again!

It's back, and fixed!!!

Well, I finally got Chase back today from my mechanic, with the problem solved and a firm understanding of why the throttle linkage wasn't working: It was missing the spring on the back of the lever at the IP! My indy didn't even charge me for it ... what a great guy he is.
He did point out that I need to change the belts (the AC belt is the wrong belt, and it makes sense to change them all at once given that I don't know the vintage of the others), but he left that up to me since he knows I like to try stuff myself. And from the looks of it he's got plenty of other cars to fix!
So ... a good outcome and some refreshing news during an otherwise bummer of a week. Now I can go back to returning Chase to showroom condition. I am also pretty excited to report that the valve adjustment seemed to go well ... the car seems to accelerate a little better in 1st (I'm not going to say any form of the word "fast" though), and idles smooth. I'll be interested to see how it starts cold now.

Your mechanical shop seems to have a decent attitude. Not a lot of them left in my opinion. Nice to hear.
